Most of us feel sad sometimes. Sometimes it’s linked to events or circumstances in our lives that we can or can’t control.
And sometimes we just don’t know why we feel sad.
But a common trait amongst us humans is feeling lonely. Loneliness is a tough color to crumble, but something that can help a little is a good read.
Here’s our list of 10 books to read when you’re feeling lonely:
10 Books to Read When You are Feeling Lonely
1. Uninvited: Living Loved When You Feel Less Than, Left Out, and Lonely by Lysa TerKeurst
Great read when feeling rejection. This is a book that is for those that have experienced extreme pain and are 800 miles away from anyone they know and love. The writing style is honest and visual.
Some have even called this book a “healing” book.
2. Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
It’s a fictional story following a protagonist that has to go it alone.
It can be gut-wrenching at times but it can easily become one of your favorites if you’re not careful.
3. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
Is the type of story you can read and be affected differently each time.
Patrick doesn’t shy away from talking into the hard things we go through in life and dealing with death.
It’s raw and emotional and if I were you, I’d keep a box of tissues nearby.
4. A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Bachman
Bachman does an amazing job of creating characters that are creatively flawed and humbly lovable.
You’ll regret not adding this book to your reading list.
5. The Teashop on the Corner by Milly Johnson
If you feel like your life’s in ruins, wait till you read this book. Milly captures the moment our lives fall apart and then she takes us through it crashing all around us.
If you need to know you’re not alone this might help bring some warmth to your heart.

6. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
Eleanor as we meet her is socially inept and would prefer to avoid most human interaction. She’s responsible but would rather spend her weekends alone than trying to figure out how to socially interact with others until she runs into Raymond.
No spoilers here, but if you think friendship is an impossible task. This read might just bring you hope.
7. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
This book will hit you square in the feels if you’re not careful. It reads as a children’s book but has lessons for 9 to 99 year olds.
This deep meaningful allegory will try to help you see what’s really important in life.
8. We Are Okay by Nina Lacour
Captures the feeling of sadness so well. Follow an isolated young Marin into a new life that leaves a mysterious and haunting past behind.
But as we all know eventually the past finds you.
9. Anxious People by Fredrik Backman
Most of what Fredrik writes is helpful in sad and lonely times.
This book follows suit and even throws in some twists along the way. The flawed characters are relatable and lovable. This book probably won’t disappoint.
10. Normal People by Sally Rooney
This one is a bit of a thinker (fair warning) but if you’re willing to take the ride this book will help you journey through the ups and downs of part of two other people’s lives.
The question is: Will you enjoy their journeys? That, I leave up to you.
Hope this helps!
